College Visit Opportunities for Seniors & Juniors:

  

College & Career Night at CHS- Monday, Oct. 30th 5:30pm-7:00pm in CHS CommonsSeniors and Juniors must attend to get college visit days

 Navigating Nursing at the W- Interested in learning more about nursing? Mississippi University for Women in Columbus, MS is offering an opportunity for a "hands-on" learning experience on Nov. 16, 2017 and March 1, 2018. Must have a min ACT of 21 and 3.0 GPA. See Mrs. Martindale in the counselor's office to register.

Junior/Seniors- If you would like to get an excused day to visit a college, you must pick up a form in the counselor's office and get is signed by your teachers 2 days prior to your schedule college visit. Keep this form and return it to Mrs. Kathi Irwin, along with a letter from the college stating that you were on their campus in order to get the day excused.

 

 Fall/Spring Days- Visit the website of the college that you are interested in attending. Most colleges offer special fall dates and spring dates for interested students to come visit their campus

 

MSU Preview Days: open-house event for juniors and seniors- The fall dates are Oct. 9Oct. 23Nov. 13. You can begin signing up in September.  If you are unable to visit for one of the MSU Preview Days, they have daily campus visit tours that you can sign up for.

 

Leadership Opportunities:

ACE Power Association - Electric Cooperatives Youth Leadership Program of Mississippi- For Juniors-  If you would like an opportunity to represent our high school and enhance your leadership talents with the ACE youth leadership program, you must submit a 100 word + essay about why you would like to attend the Electric Cooperatives of MS Youth Leadership Program. Juniors who submit an essay will be interviewed and 3 students will selected to represent CHS. Selected students will be interviewed by a panel at the ACE Power Association.  Interested juniors must submit their essay to the counselor's office by Monday, Nov. 13th.

 

 

Mississippi Governors School- (Sophomores & Juniors)- a three-week residential collegiate experience that blends cultural, academic, social, and recreational components into a rich and natural learning environment. More information will be available in spring 2018. 

 

Junior Leadership Alcorn (JLA) - For Sophomores and Juniors . Copies of application can be picked up in the counselor's office. Deadline to apply is Nov. 17th

 

Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) state seminar will be held on June1-3, 2018 at Millsaps College in Jackson, MS.  SOPHOMORES- If you would like an opportunity to represent our high school and discover your leadership talents you must submit a 100 word + essay about why you would like to attend HOBY. Students who submit an essay will be interviewed and 2 sophomores will selected to represent CHS at the HOBY leadership seminar. Sophomores must submit their essay to the counselor's office by Monday, Nov. 13th.

 

 

 

Boys State-  Information about the 2018 Session of Boys State will be posted spring 2018. Typically, the local American Legion sponsors/covers the registration fee for our boys who want to attend.
